Thumbs up It's Back!....the 2011 Indy Decal program from S2Ki Ohio

    Thread is here: http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/8665...-program-2011/

It's year number four, and I have the official word from Indycar - We are going to do the decal program this year, in conjunction with the Izod Indycar Series and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the race weekend of August 5-7.

I expect this to go as well as last year. We've all learned that sitting out on the track in the heat for long periods is as much of a good thing as black storm clouds approaching.....

Here is a quick breakdown of what we will do:

∙ we will put decals on our cars, approximately 4-6 weeks before the race weekend, and then show them off as much as possible. We will plan some photo meets and ops and take tons of pictures.
I hope to pass the decals out during the Arthritis Foundation Car Show in Dublin Ohio during the second weekend in July. That show is a great place to show-off the decals (plus, Mid-Ohio's offices are on there) and it saves me a lot of time and money handing them out in bulk.

∙ Mid-Ohio and/or Indycar may have some pre-race activities for us to attend (more photo ops), but more than likely, not. However, the track is under new ownership and they've put on this year's St Pete Indycar race, and will put on Toronto's.

This schedule has not been finalized and can change day-to-day because of the time demands of the Indycar drivers and their schedule. This may include some on-track activities - such as an S2000 parade with each carrying an Indycar driver or VIP or nobody

    Verified with Mid-Ohio today (5/10)
    Each participant (car) will receive;
    - weekend General Admission tickets (two)
    - paddock passes (two)
    - a special infield parking pass (one)
We will have the same parking area as last year - this is a great spot!
Also, we may bet discount coupons for food, souvenirs, etc...

The max count is yet to be determined. We can decal 40 - 45, but this will be limited to Ohio folks and those in surrounding states (like last year.) There maybe fewer cars in the parade lap - tbd, assuming we have a parade lap. You must be part of the decal list to be considared for the parade lap. In the past, every car has been allowed to go out (even without a rider.)

Any S2000 can sport the decals, however, two obvious (to me) items for parade lap cars:
    - You can't have a hardtop installed to do parade
    - No rollcages - Drivers and VIPs aren't going to contort thru a jungle jim of tubing
I'll start a list below for the decal program only.

Use this thread for all questions - I will answer as soon as i can, and I will add info as it becomes available. Of course, all of this is subject to change without notice

This is shaping up to be the Ohio event of the year - so spread the word! :blah:

As a side note, you are representing The Izod Indycar Series and The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course - so if any word of street racing, drinking and driving, etc... get back to me, you are out of the program. If you have yellow party-plates on your car, then don't bother asking. You are more than welcome to join us at the races, but you cannot participate. Also, drive with courtesy - use your turn signals, let people in infront of you, wave back at the little kids, etc... Weaving in and out of traffic at 90mph isn't good for advertising.

Again, things are 99% finalized, so hopefully i can make things official very soon. If you want to get the decals for your S2000, PM the following info:
    - Name (first and last), Address, Phone#, email, shirt size, and car color.
PM me, don't post it here and flood this thread. Updates are sure to follow.
I'd like to tidy this list up by mid-to-end of next week.

    Thanks,
    -Pete

    Update;
Read what Mocky has written below concerning the entrance to the paddock...
Also, if you haven't done the decal program before and i have never personally met you, please type a little something about who you do know or what activities you are involved in concerning S2KI. Once your name is on the list - your in.

Its funny how a little link magic makes all the difference in the googlez search. The correct thread is now the top result just because of our little site and/or my badge.

For anyone who has not participated in this before, I highly recommend getting your name on the list.
We had a great time - the weather was beautiful, we met a lot of great s2k folks, and Helio rode in my car.

Unfortunately, Conan & I will not be able to make it this year due to another event we have scheduled for that weekend.

I may attend the race just to attend the race, if you like motorsports it's hard not to have a great time there.

Do I remember someone getting all the Cinti decals last year and having a "decal party?" I don't think I'll make it to the thing in Dublin.

That was me. Delivery of the decals was running late last year, and Shannon was unable to host the decal party, so I took care of it for him. If no one will be in Dublin to pick them up, I'm happy to take delivery & distribute again and/or host the decal party. (See how I volunteer us for stuff, Conan?)

I learned last year that it's not especially difficult to get them on the car, but the larger ones for the hood & trunk deck are certainly easier with an extra set of hands. Looks like there are 5-6 local people currently on the list (if I remember everyone's screen names correctly)?

    I still recommended soapy water.

Lay it on wet, squeegee it all out, let it dry, remove backing, guaranteed success. I'd be happy to help anyone with this.

IDK what you're into, but that's not a possibility for me.

It's only as awkward as you make it?

So just like always, I'm scraping the bucket for a hotel that is cheap and close by the track. I had two sources for rooms 10 min away but they fell through The place I usually go has tons of rooms for cheap, you are welcome to join me there

    Knights Inn Columbus North

    $35 a night, 55 min away

Its not amazing, but they have a pool, and the Indian guy that is always there is nice enough. I'll prolly go up Friday night and sleep in Saturday. $35 for an extra 2 hours sleep Saturday instead of driving all the way sounds like a deal to me.

I'm staying with a friend in Marion. If he was single I'd ask him if you could stay too, but they'd probably feel weird about having a stranger in the house with their two little girls.

There's an Econolodge on the north side of Columbus, I think at the US 23 exit, that was $38/night if you register for a "Choice Privaleges" membership. Bonus: stay two nights, which you are, and get enough points for a free night.

We stayed in Polaris for last year's event; lots of nice, newer places to choose from.
It's about 45-60 minutes from the track - depending on how you drive - so be sure to allow enough time to get there for check-in on Sunday. We cut it close last year.

If Lisa goes with me, I'll be sure not to tell her about this and you shouldn't either. She loves children as much as I love cars.

Yeah I stayed close the year before and it was nice only having to drive 15 min to get to the track.
